There would be a natural way that people would fall into where there is less pain and aggravation. Animals find it.

Maybe we are like birds, gibbons and arctic wolves that naturally pair up for life if left to their own devices. That would resemble the traditional marriage except it wouldn't be for money.

Maybe we would be more like monkeys, lions and wolves that naturally form groups, interacting in a more co-operative way than any people I've ever seen. And, again, they co-operate for more reasons than just money.

We could even be more like horned hoofed beasts whose females stay in a great herd, while males head off alone or in bachelor groups and clash their horns in a way that tests their strength but doesn't hurt each other. They also use their horns against predators of course. Then they know each other well and can head back into town come mating season without the crazed delusions that men have.
